On Thursday, Blackmagic Design dropped a whopper of a mid-year DaVinci Resolve\u00a0update<\/a>, one that should make Window’s users in particular quite happy.<\/h3>\n

Though this update is pretty wide-ranging and includes significant updates for every part of the software, the feature that stands out most native decoding of ProRes files for Resolve users on a Windows machine. Ever since Apple decided to ditch support for QuickTime 7 on the Windows platform, post-production professionals and software companies alike have been scrambling to find new ways to work with industry-standard QuickTime codecs like ProRes. This is what led to\u00a0Adobe’s latest update with native ProRes support<\/a>, and now Resolve is there as well. The other welcome feature in this DaVinci Resolve update is improved playback and trimming performance with h.264 media, which is one of the places where Resolve is particularly laggy, especially if you’re working on a slower computer. It’s also the reason that so many people prefer to\u00a0use optimized media<\/a>\u00a0when doing edit and colorwork in Resolve. There’s a ton more ground to cover in the 12.5.1 update.
