Hooked on Phonics

Hooked on phonics was a big part of my life till
I kicked those words to the curb

Everybody told me you’ll never get a job
It’ll be a few more failures ‘fore you learn

Everybody knows all they really need is
Clothes and food
Papa told me “Son, don’t ever stop having fun
You’re still young”

Three more majors ‘fore I gave it up for good
Maybe I’ll get to work, maybe I should
But I know I’ll never let it go
So I’m gonna take it real slow

Look at all the people around you
They aren’t worried at all

Now that I’m sixty three years old
I didn’t take the advice that I was told
I’m telling you, my son, it’s time to be bold
Don’t ever trade anything for your soul
