Alphonse Hasselmans was a renowned harpist, composer, and teacher in the second half of the 19th century. Born in Belgium and later settling in France, Hasselmans left a significant mark on the music world. He received training at prestigious institutions like the Conservatory in Strasbourg and learned from leading harpists Gottlieb Kruger and Ange-Conrad Prumier. Hasselmans became well-known as a soloist, performing with orchestras in Paris. He also held a respected position as a professor at the Conservatoire de Paris, where he influenced a generation of French harpists. His compositions, including the acclaimed La Source (Op. 44), showcased his immense talent and dedication to the harp.
