Richard Strauss (1864–1949) was a German composer and conductor, renowned for his tone poems and operas. A leading figure of Late Romanticism and Early Modernism, his acclaimed works include 'Also sprach Zarathustra', 'Don Juan', 'Salome', 'Der Rosenkavalier', and 'Four Last Songs'. As a conductor, he led major opera houses across Europe and co-founded the Salzburg Festival.
